What to Actually Bring to Your Bridal Appointment (And What to Leave at Home)

Every bride asks us this in the week before her appointment: "What do I actually need to bring?" Here's the honest, no-fluff list — built from real appointments, not a generic checklist copied from somewhere else.

Bring: the right underwear

Wear (or bring) a nude, seamless strapless bra and nude underwear. Most wedding dresses have built-in support, but you'll get a far more accurate sense of fit if you're not fighting visible bra straps or seams. If you've already bought special bridal underwear, bring it — otherwise, don't stress, we've got you covered.

Bring: shoes with some heel, even if they're not "the" shoes

You don't need your actual wedding shoes yet. But bring something with roughly the heel height you're planning to wear, so the length and how the dress moves are accurate. Trying a floor-length gown in flat trainers gives you a genuinely misleading picture.

Bring: one or two people whose opinion you actually trust

Not everyone who wants to come. One or two. The people who'll tell you the truth, not just what they think you want to hear, and who won't turn the appointment into a debate. We say this every week because it's the single biggest thing that changes how an appointment goes.

Bring: your actual budget number

Not a rounded-down "polite" number — your real one. We ask early so we're not wasting your appointment on dresses that were never going to work. There's no judgement here, only designers and price points that genuinely fit what you've told us.

Bring: photos, if you have them — but hold them loosely

Pinterest boards and saved photos are useful for giving us a starting direction. But the dress that looks incredible on you might be nothing like what you saved — bodies, venues and fabrics all behave differently in person than on a screen. Use the photos as a conversation starter, not a rulebook.

Leave at home: a packed guest list

We touched on this last week — more opinions in the room rarely means a better decision, it usually means a slower, more confusing one. Trust the people you bring, not the size of the group.

Leave at home: your phone (mostly)

A few photos at the end of your appointment, once you've narrowed it down, are genuinely useful. But brides who are filming and narrating every single dress for social media the whole way through often end up performing a reaction instead of actually feeling one. Give yourself the appointment before you give it to your followers.

Leave at home: pressure to decide on the spot

You do not have to say yes in the room. If you need to sit with it, sit with it. A dress that's right for you will still be right for you tomorrow.

Ready to book your appointment? We're in Carrickfergus, a 45-minute drive from Belfast, Larne, Newtownabbey and Ballyclare, and appointments are going fast. Book here and bring exactly what's on this list — nothing more.

Why We Don't Do "Say Yes to the Dress" Theatrics

Reality TV has done a lot for the bridal industry's visibility and absolutely nothing for how appointments are actually run. So let's say plainly what we think of the format: we don't do it, and we do
